In music we have an absolute ear, in gastronomy an absolute taste. Hassan Kadam is considered a culinary prodigy who emigrates from India, the land of a thousand spices, to France, where, in the words of Jean Anouilh, weddings, baptisms, duels, funerals and diplomatic disputes are just a pretext for a good dinner. But when Hassan opens an Indian restaurant in front of Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), an incident is brewing.
The story takes place in a cozy village Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France, where Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) opens Indian restaurant Maison Mumbai in close proximity (hence the name of the film) to the Michelin-starred restaurant Le Saule Pleureur (Under the weeping willow) owned Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren). A combination of the ruthless Mallory and Hassan's temperamental father Pape (Om Puri) puts the serenity of this idyllic village on the cold.

Although at first it is sublime, arrogant and condescending, Mallory, like a pork steak that needs time, eventually just softens and make so much room in the heart that her (culinary and worldview) tastes and the tastes of Hassan's family bring them together and not to each other they are cooking more grievances.
If the story begins with an imminent collision (car), which leads to a real collision of two worlds, but the film does not leave a bitter aftertaste, because, as is known, it goes love through stomach and even cold Madame Mallory realizes that she has the wrong one recipe for his attitude towards this Indian family.
