Patti Smith cannot be overstated, as her oeuvre is simply too diverse and unique. Her name became synonymous with the interweaving of poetry and rock music, unconventionality and the fight against the system, but above all she showed the wider world that women's equality applies both on and off the stage.
After the hippie-tinged, optimistic 60s and the final disintegration of the idealized American dream after the Vietnam War, America found itself in a political and cultural upheaval. This training ground was perfectly created for Patti Smith, who arrived on the scene, dressed in the colors of street poetry, urban sensibility and indicated a new musical direction that changed the world of music forever. In the second half of the 70s, punk arrived on the scene, and even before the "official explosion" there was Patti, who released her debut album in 1975 Horses, her critically acclaimed album that served as a sort of catalyst for the entire East Coast punk and new wave scene.
