UB40 are simply timeless. We all know them and love listening to them, because their rhythms are light and summery. So that we don't only listen to them on the radio in the warmer part of the year, we can experience them live at the beginning of spring at a concert in the Gran Teatro Geox in neighboring Italy.
UB40 is that band with which we can carelessly sit on the beach and drink a glass of red wine. And also the one to which our parents used to dance in the evenings when we were children. Britan reggae/pop the band was formed in 1978. From young boys of the middle class, whose name UB40 is actually a set of initials Unemployment Benefit, Form 40, grew into one of the world's most famous reggae bands, although, as they say, the path was by no means easy.
Even before the remaining six members picked up their instruments, they Brian Travers and Or Campbell around Birmigham, where the boys come from, pasted up posters and warned about the upcoming new group. They created and perfected their sound in several jams in their hometown, where they caught the attention of many.
From the first single Food for Thought, which was released on an independent label and reached number four in the UK singles chart, only went up. In August 1980, they released their first album Signing Off, which is now considered a platinum album. As they climbed their way to the top of world fame, they encouraged and supported local musicians and bands, inviting them on one tour after another.
After more than thirty years and 18 studio albums UB40 are still known worldwide, their big hits such as the aforementioned Food for Tonight, Order Red Wine and Can't Help Falling in Love, are regular riders of the radio waves. Although Campbell decided to leave the band in 2008, after exactly 30 years of existence, the group has been revived since last year. In a slightly shortened line-up, they will make sure that we all get our money's worth during the summer hits in Padova.
