The well-known Tibetan Buddhist monk and Nobel laureate has always taught us the importance of human values such as self-discipline, forgiveness, compassion, happiness, peace and love. The Dalai Lama describes himself as just a simple Buddhist monk, and it is this simplicity that makes his lessons so sincere and instructive.
Let's discover together some of his wise life lessons and thoughts that will change our lives.
1. Love is the absence of judgment.
Judgment has no meaning in our lives. It holds us back from truth and love and keeps us stuck in the illusion of separateness. Love is our essence. Love has no limits because we are all pearls strung together on the same thread of love. In the absence of judgment, love is what remains.
2. My faith is very simple. My religion is kindness.
Being kind and compassionate is the core of all spiritual teachings and life paths. It is something that each of us can cultivate by choice. Instead of spending time criticizing others, work on your positivity and compassion. Kindness provides a sense of well-being and connectedness that improves our mental health.
3. Positive and negative actions are determined according to one's own motivation.
If the motivation is good, all actions become positive, if the motivation is bad, they become negative.
Any action (whether it has a positive or negative result) largely depends on motivation. In this statement, motivation refers to thought as it determines our intentions. So always think positive and only positive.
4. Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is wonderful luck.
When things don't go as planned or as we would like, we tend to look within ourselves. We think about what we could have done differently - this helps us to shift our focus and learn from our past mistakes, because without failures we would never be able to appreciate the "smooth ride".
5. We can never attain peace in the outer world until we first attain peace within ourselves.
Most of us live under the illusion that happiness and peace come from our external world, but the truth is actually quite the opposite. If you don't have peace within yourself, the outside world won't have any power over your state of mind either. To achieve your peace you must stop thinking about the future and focus on the here and now. Live in the present as if it's all you have. Accept yourself and then allow yourself to grow.
6. Sleep is the best meditation.
Sleep is the time when we get in touch with our subconscious through our dreams. We travel to a completely different world and come back refreshed. All living things treat themselves to sleep as one of the most crucial activities for the well-being of our mind, body and spirit. Lack of sleep is a big culprit in our negative mood, anxiety and depression. Never compromise on your sleep!
7. A true hero is one who conquers his own anger and hatred.
It is easy to fall prey to negative emotions - anger, hatred, fear, jealousy, etc. Anger is a corrosive emotion that damages our mental and physical health. It damages our nervous, cardiovascular and digestive systems. Anger can also lead to depression. Making a conscious decision to deal with the emotions and things that make us angry and focusing on finding solutions to them is our heroic achievement!
8. When ignorance is our master, we have no chance of true peace.
Sometimes we ignore something, which is our fault because of fear, and it is fear that is still the greatest enemy of peace. Ignorance is the cause of our accumulated frustrations, which can come to a head on a certain occasion. In order to develop and achieve our peace, it is necessary to rise above all "dirt" (or hardship) and blossom (develop).
9. It is very rare or almost impossible for a situation to be negative from all angles.
Don't lose hope if a situation is negative or unpleasant, look on the bright side and embrace everything that life throws at you. With this attitude, you will also accept life as an adventure and not as some constant burden.
10. True spirituality is a mental attitude that you can practice at any moment.
Spirituality builds a sense of connection with something greater than ourselves. You can have your spiritual experience while listening to music, walking in the woods, watching the sun rise, or whatever feeds your soul.
