Freddie Mercury, who today is considered by many to be a gay icon, kept his relationships under a veil of secrecy. Maybe that's why, when you look at the photo of the famous singer and his last partner Jim Hutton, you get a special sense of intimacy that reveals the true beauty of their love.
Freddie started a relationship in the mid-1980s with hairdresser Jim Hutton, and the beginning of their relationship was quite tumultuous. The legendary singer tried to approach Jim on two occasions, but both attempts were unfortunately unsuccessful. It wasn't until they met for the third time in the same club (two years after the first chat) that he did Mercury's persistence convinced Hutton.
Jim and Freddie moved into Garden Lodge about two years later, and they remained together until the artist's death in 1991. When Freddie was diagnosed with AIDS, Mercury offered his partner an 'escape' from the relationship, but Jim refused the offer. "I love you Freddie," Jim recalls saying in the documentary. "I'm not going anywhere." And it's not. Hutton nurtured the love of his life and was by his side even when he passed away.
