There's nothing worse than feeling overheated at night and no matter how much you toss and turn, you feel like you're on fire and can't fall asleep. Unfortunately, there are a lot of factors that go into making you feel hot, so it's a good idea to stick to some guidelines as they can help you on your way to a restful night's sleep.

Fortunately, these ten tips will help you get a great night's sleep on hot summer days.

1. Keep a bottle of cold water with two drops of lavender essential oil by your bed. Spray the mixture on your face at night.

2. During the day, keep the blinds and curtains closed in the bedroom to avoid overheating the bedroom. In the evening, open the windows and doors and create a draft.

3. Before going to bed, wash your feet and hands with cold water - this is where your veins are closer to the surface of the skin, so you will cool down faster.

4. Before going to bed, place a cold or wet towel in the freezer for an hour and place it on the bed 15 minutes before going to bed.

5. Sleep in a cool shirt.

6. Use a fan and position it to blow air over the ice tray - this will cool the room as the ice melts, but don't blow directly on you.

7. You can use light, airy bedding and a thin summer blanket - silk or natural cotton will be more than perfect.

8. Check that your pillow and cover do not contain synthetic materials that only make you hotter.

9. Do not drink alcohol or hot spicy food before going to bed, as this will only make you hotter.

10. Try to slow down your heart rate with a breathing technique. Consciously take 10 slow and deep breaths.

And most importantly, stay well hydrated throughout the day and don't get too worked up if you can't sleep. Use the time for reflection and positive thoughts to be extra productive during the day!
