We have sailed into the new year (even into the new decade) ... and into new New Year's resolutions. We promised ourselves to lose weight, exercise more, be kinder, finish all the open projects left over from last year, etc. And to be honest, most of us won't do it: we quickly get overwhelmed, decide that it's all taking up too much of our time, or wonder what the hell we were thinking when we decided to learn how to play in the New Year trumpet... Blah, blah, blah!
Instead of giving you crazy ideas of what to do in the New Year, let me encourage you to do something quite simple, something that is completely doable. Ready? First time: treat our environment well. Don't throw trash through car windows, recycle, don't "collect" plastic, don't destroy nature reserves... Secondly: be a good example! Show your children, peers, how to be responsible, why it is necessary to respect other people, nature, the universe. Show them to be friendly, teach them to say hello and share your knowledge. Third time: help improve the world for tomorrow. Join one of the initiatives, go to meetings, volunteer to clean your surroundings, help build, repair or maintain some cultural or natural attraction...
It's pretty simple and it might sound cliche, but we really have to start with ourselves! This is the only way we will teach the future generation the respect that we need both among ourselves and the planet Earth. Try again and again and again.
