The 25th International Festival of Contemporary Arts - City of Women 2019 will focus on women's stories this year between October 1 and 13. On the occasion of the jubilee, they note that the promotion of women in culture, the highlighting of the female point of view and the defense of women's equality are no less necessary after 25 years than they once were.
That's why at this year's festival City of Women 2019 expose #HerStory or Women's History. That history that was ignored, forgotten, suppressed. They are not afraid of visibility and they are not afraid to write history from a woman's perspective. Because if we want to think an inclusive future, we need to listen to #HerStory: the stories of women of all genders.
It will be in 13 days 162 participants filled 18 venues with bold art at 36 different events: ZRC Atrium, Faculty of Arts, Alkatraz Gallery, Kapelica Gallery, Škuc Gallery, Cinema, Šiška Cinema, Slovenian Cinematheque, Modern Gallery, Ground Floor, SCCA Project Room, Slovenian Youth Theatre, Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova (+MSUM), Spanish Fighters, Switzerland, The old city power plant and at MFRU/several locations in Maribor.
This year, the Society of the City of Women received a prestigious international award for culture Princess Margriet, awarded by the European Cultural Foundation. As they wrote, they offer "a more hopeful vision of democracy in Europe today, as it redefines our understanding of culture and its ability to improve the common European social reality". The City of Women festival also received the title for the second time this year EFFE Label (2017–2020), awarded to the best quality festivals by the Association of European Festivals.
