Snow-covered trees, mighty mountain peaks and fairy-tale villages, these are just a few glimpses of the world that your eyes can embrace through the windows of a travel train.
Traveling by train is magical in all seasons, but perhaps it is winter that is especially close to our hearts. We have selected three beautiful journeys in style for you - along the railway tracks.
Venice Simplon-Orient Express
A symbol of glamor that dates back to 1982, it allows you to truly travel in style. The train that gracefully glides along European railway tracks also stops in Vienna, Florence, Paris and Venice, but it is not the destinations that make the journey so magical.
In the comfort of a private compartment, where renowned chef Jean Imbert will serve you delicious dishes, you will be able to relive the golden age of the train. Accompany your journey with a glass of excellent sparkling wine to the sounds of the piano, while the train moves leisurely through the silent snow-covered forests.
Glacier Express
The winter fairy tale that winds through the dramatic alpine landscape between towering peaks and frozen lakes is called the Glacier Express. A train passing by St. Moritz all the way to the Zermatt ski resort, it takes you past isolated mountain huts and through pine forests, and on the way you meet a bunch of bridges and tunnels and climb up to 2000 m above sea level.
Enjoy sparkling views over a three-course dinner in a First Class cabin, and combine your excursion with the surrounding hot springs and luxury resorts.
Semmering Railway
The world's first railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, may not have to offer the luxury of the aforementioned train, but its views easily rival those of the Swiss Alps and European capitals.
Semmering is still considered a great engineering feat of the 19th century, and the railway winds along impressive viaducts and arched bridges.
