Autumn family wanderings

Although the days are getting shorter and the temperatures are getting lower, November is also a month worth spending outdoors in nature. Perhaps the following five ideas will come in handy when organizing your next fall family outing.

Greens

The Zelenci Nature Reserve is located on the northern edge of the Triglav National Park, next to the road that connects Rateče and Kranjska Gora. The swamp offers a home to a lot of animal and plant species, and in the far western part you can also find an emerald green lake, from which layers of lake chalk boil. The constant water temperature in Zelenci is 6 degrees, so they do not freeze even in winter.

Izola

On days when the storm calms down a bit, it's worth going to the Slovenian coast and enjoying some sun rays. You start your journey in Koper and head towards Izola along the coast and the well-maintained walking path, which is also suitable for bicycles and rollerblades. Along the way, you will also be able to play games or refresh yourself in one of the bars and have lunch in Izola, and then head back to the starting point.

Mangart saddle

One of the most beautiful panoramic mountain roads in Slovenia leads you to the Mangart saddle, a mountain paradise lying 2,055 meters above sea level. In autumn, nature rewards you with beautiful shades, as beech forests and isolated larch trees blend into a palette of beautiful colors. You can often come across the first snow in autumn, which makes everything a bit more fairytale-like.

Horns

In the heart of the mighty Pohorje forests is the Pohorje Canopy Path, where you will experience a piece of forest life and meet many unique plant and animal species. The path measures a good kilometer and takes you through a diverse forest, which will help you better understand how the forest works and how important its inhabitants are.

Škocjan Caves

In autumn, when the river Reka is full of water, visiting the Škocjan Caves is even more magical, as the interior of the caves becomes even more mystical. The Škocjan Caves are the first Slovenian natural monument to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. During your visit, pay attention to the many animals that live there, from bats to marsh otters and endemic species of crustaceans and beetles.
