After a one-year hiatus, Eurovision returned to Dutch stages and TV screens across Europe this year. The Italian rock group Måneskin celebrated with the song Zitti e Buoni (Quiet and hardworking). She convinced the crowd and the jury with her charismatic performance and controversial appearance. But who exactly are Måneskin? We have prepared for you 6 interesting facts about this year's winners.
A singer Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi and a drummer Ethan Torchio are four young musicians from Rome. They are known mainly for their non-conformism with social and sexual norms and their eccentric performances. They have released an EP so far Chosen in 2017 and the album Il ballo della vita (2018) and Teatro d'ira: Vol. 1 in this year. Their victory at the festival took them on their way to Rotterdam Sanremo 2021, and they are already announcing a new album by the end of the year. In March 2022, they will go on tour in Italy and three months later they will perform at the German festivals Rock am ring and Rock im park.
1. Their name means moonlight in Danish
The idea for the name came from bass player Victoria, whose roots go back to Denmark. The band needed the name to apply to Pulse, a local festival for emerging bands. The festival was a turning point for their career, as they won first place there and started writing their own song lyrics.
2. They were street musicians
The stages they performed on were not always glamorous. Far from it - Måneskin proudly say that only a few years ago they performed their concerts just like that on the streets of Rome.

3. They appeared on the X Factor
But how did the band manage to make it from the streets to the adoration of the masses? The answer lies in a popular reality show, versions of which have spread across the world from Great Britain. In 2017, Måneskin is in Italian The X Factor conquered 2nd place and gained great recognition in the country.
4. They have known each other since they were young
Victoria and Thomas know each other since elementary school, but they didn't date until 2015. Only then did they decide to start a band together, which was later joined by Damien. The last to join the project was Ethan, who asked in the Facebook group if any band was looking for a drummer. Måneskin - still unnamed at the time - contacted him and that's how it all started.
The fact that the four compose music together does not mean that they prefer to listen to the same genres and musicians. For example, Victoria listed a pop singer as her favorite artist Harry Styles and a rock band Arctic Monkeys, while the rest prefer to listen to the music of rock bands Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana and Radiohead. Among other things, Ethan is a fan of the singer Bruno Mars.
5. Their main message is hidden in the name Marlena
Fans quickly noticed that the name Marlena appears in as many as five songs from their first album Il ballo della vita, and began to wonder if the muse of one of the musicians was hiding behind him. But Måneskin explained at one of the concerts in 2018 that there is no real person behind him, but only a personification of what they want to convey to the world with their music. But that's a concept freedom, life and creativity.
