Second-hand stores have become increasingly popular in recent years, both because you can save a lot of money by shopping this way, and because they promote an environmentally friendly lifestyle. In addition to clothes, we can find many things in them, including furniture. But what are the pieces of furniture that you can get second-hand without worry?

1. Vases and ceramics

Vases and ceramic glasses, in which you place your flowers, are a great way to beautify quite simply the premises of your home, garden and balcony. Only flowers will fill your senses with pleasant vibrations, and vintage vases and glasses will enchant your home a mystical feeling. If you decide to buy at a market, flea market or second hand store, there is a high probability that you will come across a unique piece, for which you would otherwise pay much more money.

2. Carpets

Also carpets are among the pieces of furniture whose quality requires paying a lot of money, so it is definitely worth buying them used. In addition, textile dyes and modern production techniques can be harmful to the environment, and the finished product is still not as durable as handwoven vintage designs. Antique rugs are usually rich in colors that don't fade as quickly as modern versions, thanks to vegetable dyes and more natural pigmentation methods. When buying a second-hand carpet, however, you should be careful about scraps cigarette smoke and pet hair, which can cause allergies even after professional cleaning. Therefore, carefully study and inspect the carpet before purchasing.

3. Wooden furniture

The fact is, it is wooden furniture, made a few decades ago, much more quality like today. Pay particular attention to durable pieces of furniture from middle of the 20th century, made from types of wood such as maple tree, cherry or oak. You can leave them as they are, or you can rearrange them into more modern versions with brass handles and the like metal details.

4. Leather armchairs and sofas

Armchairs and sofas can represent a very expensive purchase, if you decide to get them from regular furniture stores. That's why many people choose to look at second-hand options. But be careful: when buying used leather, it's a good idea to steer clear modern production process, in which they are used toxic chemicals, such as chromium. A good feature of leather is that looks better with age, so stick to the rule: the older the leather furniture, the better.

A mirror is a piece of furniture that is not only very useful, but also creates the illusion of a larger space. If you decide on a unique vintage mirror, you will also enchant your room new look and added depth. We advise you to look for quality pieces from carved wood. Many older mirror frames are also decorated with gilded or patterns, which you won't find in newer versions.
