Because of sex

"Women appreciate good sex just as much as men do. They tend to cheat on their partners when they meet someone who turns them on,” says Nelson, adding that the "stereotype" that men cheat for sex and women for feelings is not true. This was also confirmed by a recent study published in the Journal of Sex Research, which shows that sex is one of the three most common reasons why women cheat.

Dissatisfaction with the relationship

The same study found that women cheat when they stop being in love with their partner. Although there is still love, a woman who is not satisfied with the relationship is more likely to cheat on her partner. Psychologist Margaret Paul explains that people with low self-esteem often seek validation that they are valuable. If they don't get it from their current partner, they can look for it from someone else. "We often see that people cheat when they don't know how to take responsibility for themselves, when they don't care about their own feelings and when they don't know how to develop the ability to stand up for themselves in a relationship. Because they neglect themselves, they need the attention of another person." said Paul.

They forget about problems

Cheating can be a sign that something is wrong with the woman or the relationship. Paul here compares deception to alcohol or drugs. Such behavior is a way for a woman to avoid feelings or problems instead of facing them.

But Nelson points out that sometimes it also happens because people want to change something in their marriage or relationship.
