On the fifth anniversary of their partnership, adidas and the environmental organization Parley For The Oceans have renewed their commitment to the joint fight against ocean plastic pollution, releasing a special line of adidas Parley UltraBOOST DNA sneakers made from yarns and threads from recycled ocean waste.
Cooperation between Parley and Adidas has been based on three pillars since 2015: let's avoid plastic where possible, recycle plastic waste from the oceans into "ocean plastic", and reuse this plastic by inventing new materials. As part of their collaboration, the two partners developed Parley Ocean Plastic from collected ocean plastic high-performance Primeblue yarn, from which adidas has produced more than 30 million pairs of sneakers over the past five years. Also this year, in celebration of their 5th anniversary, they presented a renewed model of running shoes adidas Parley UltraBOOST DNA, which is made entirely of recycled plastic and prevents about 11 bottles from ending up in seas and oceans. adidas will donate US$30 from every pair purchased between June 26-29 to support Parley.
adidas has been phasing out primary polyester from its products over the past five years and has committed to recycling more than 50 percent of all polyester in adidas products by the end of 2020. Gradual but firm steps will lead to the goal, yes by 2024 there will be no more primary plastics in adidas products.
