With Huawei technology, a range of almost 1,600 km and room for the whole family, the Aito M8 EREV aims for the top. Is this finally the SUV that will take on the European elite?
On paper, the Aito M8 EREV is a “smart family SUV,” but in practice it’s a hybrid technological marvel that’s already breaking records before it officially goes on sale. In the first 12 hours since pre-sales opened on March 6, 2025, this Chinese SUV received more than 28,000 orders, and within two weeks, the number had already climbed to over an incredible 70,000. That’s more than many European models make in an entire year. The price? More than fair by European standards – it’s between around 47,700 and 59,400 euros (368,000–458,000 yuan, or 50,800–63,200 USD). Buyers who hurry up with a deposit of 650 euros (5,000 yuan) will receive an additional 1,300 euros (10,000 yuan) discount on their final purchase. A nice way to thank them for their trust, right?
Big, comfortable and ready for anything: dimensions and comfort for the modern family
The Aito M8 is dimensionally positioned alongside the largest European SUVs. With a length of 5,190 mm, a width of almost 2 meters and a wheelbase of 3,105 mm, this is a car that is not afraid of spatial challenges. The height is 1,795 mm, which gives it an elegant but confident appearance. It will be available in 5- and 6-seat configurations, appealing to both larger families and more demanding individuals who want space, luxury and technological advancement in one package. In Aito's offer, the M8 stands somewhere between the more compact M7 and the luxurious M9, but according to initial information, it could become the star of the entire series.
Triple the power and zero stress Aito M8: EREV drive that combines the best of both worlds
The Aito M8 is equipped with a so-called EREV drive – this means that it is an electric vehicle with a petrol engine that does not drive the wheels, but serves only as a generator. The heart of the system is a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine with an output of 118 kW (158 hp), which powers two powerful electric motors – 165 kW (221 hp) at the front and 227 kW (304 hp) at the rear. The final power is not disclosed exactly, but the combination indicates an extremely powerful all-wheel drive. The top speed is 200 km/h (124 mph), which places it among the fastest hybrid SUVs in this price range. But it is not just about speed – it is about driving confidently without stressing about the range, which is the biggest thorn in the side of all-electric vehicles.
The king of range – Aito M8: more than 1,500 kilometers of worry-free driving
And now to the detail that caused the most raised eyebrows – the reach. Aito M8 The EREV can travel up to 1,526 kilometers (948 miles) on a full tank of fuel. No kidding. It offers up to 310 kilometers of electric range with the larger 51.975 kWh battery or 201 kilometers with the smaller 36.019 kWh battery. Both versions use LFP or ternary lithium cells from CATL. If the WLTC test tells you more than just three letters, you should be happy with the fuel consumption figure – it is just 0.52 liters per 100 kilometers. Although it sounds like science fiction, the manufacturer claims that the numbers are verified.
Aito M8 charging like Formula E: fast, efficient and without wasting space
Under the hood is an advanced battery system dubbed the “Giant Whale” – and while it’s a nautical metaphor, the result is quite practical. The battery pack is 80 % less complex in terms of wiring and 16.4 % thinner, which translates into less weight, more space and better cooling. Charging is via an 800V system, which allows for an additional 150 kilometres of range in just five minutes. This means that by the time you’re at the gas station for your morning coffee, you’ll be ready for the next 150 kilometres.
Aito M8 is smarter than the average driver: Huawei ADS 3.0 in action
If you are fascinated by technology, you will be Aito M8 came into its own. Thanks to the collaboration with Huawei, Aito M8 equipped with ADS 3.0 – which means top-notch driving assistance. The system is based on a 192-line LiDAR, seven millimeter-wave radars, twelve ultrasonic sensors and eleven HD cameras. The recognition of pedestrians, cyclists, other vehicles and even unusual obstacles (read: a child with kites or scooters in the middle of an intersection) is accurate and responsive. It is China's answer to Tesla's FSD and European ADAS systems – and first impressions are very positive.
Inside like in a technological living room: the interior of the future
The Aito M8 boasts an interior that could be straight out of a science fiction movie. The symmetrical design, three large screens and a stunning 75-inch HUD (head-up display) that projects information onto the windshield create the feeling of entering a digital world. While Aito has not yet revealed all the interior details, based on previous models, we expect premium materials, heated and ventilated seats, a massage function and advanced infotainment powered by Huawei’s HarmonyOS. A 5- or 6-seat configuration will also be available, allowing for complete flexibility for a variety of lifestyles – from large families to business people on the go.
Conclusion: will the Aito M8 EREV wake up the European competition from its slumber?
Although Aito is still a relatively young brand, the M8 EREV is a model that could seriously shake up the European electrified SUV market. It offers more range than any other hybrid or electric SUV in this price range, advanced technology that already rivals the best in its class, and a spacious interior that combines luxury with practicality. And all this for a price between 47,000 and 59,000 euros - which, given the specifications, is almost shockingly competitive.
The only question that remains is how quickly and efficiently Aito will be able to scale up production and enter the European market. If they succeed, traditional players like BMW, Mercedes and Audi will have to start seriously wondering whether their time of dominance may be over. For now, all we can say is: the Aito M8 is not just a car – it is a manifesto for a new class of electric mobility that makes no compromises.
