Alpine has teamed up with Signatech to create the Alpine A110 Pikes Peak - a custom 500 horsepower race car for the international ascent of motorsport's "holy mountain" - Pikes Peak. The radically redesigned racing car promises thrilling performance on the treacherous mountain course.
Alpine's - Alpine A110 Pikes Peak – is ready to tackle the iconic international climb of Pikes Peak with a new aggressive look and a significant increase in power. The French car manufacturer has partnered with the racing team Signatech, to create a custom A110 that was stripped down and improved to tackle the challenging 12.42-mile (19.93-kilometer) track with 156 turns and a dramatic 4,720-foot (1,440-meter) elevation gain.
In the heart Alpine A110 Pikes Peak is a heavily upgraded 1.8-liter turbocharged engine that now develops impressive 500 horsepower (373 kW), which is a significant jump over the 296 hp (221 kW) road version. While torque figures weren't disclosed, we do know that the standard A110 is strong at 251 pound-feet (340 newton meters), sent to the rear wheels.
In addition to the power upgrade, it is Alpine focused on improving the aerodynamics of the racing carand weight reduction. A110 Pikes Peak it boasts a prominent front splitter with large side deflectors, a roof scoop that feeds air to the engine, an aggressive rear diffuser and a signature two-piece wing. The redesigned side skirts and rear spoiler contribute to the car's attractive appearance and aerodynamic strength.
Pikes Peak A110, weighing just 2,094 pounds (950 kilograms), is lighter than the already feather-light Mazda MX-5 990S special edition. This impressive weight reduction, combined with almost triple the power, promises thrilling performance on the mountain course.
Alpine A110 Pikes Peak will complete two more tests in southern France before heading to Colorado Springs on June 25 for the big event. Alpine fans in the United States may have something to look forward to, as parent company Renault is in talks with dealer group AutoNation to begin sales in the US.
