"Yesterday we made shoes, today we make masks," New Balance wrote on Instagram. This is how they too embarked on a battle with the Covid-19 coronavirus and the lack of protective equipment.
New Balance has partnered with local medical supply stores to create a prototype general-purpose protective face mask designed to meet the demands of healthcare professionals. It is assembled from four fabrics, which best serve the needs of filtration: from five layers of polyurethane foam, a layer of nylon, a layer of polyester and non-woven layers of micro- and nanofibers. Of course, he also greatly influenced the design of the mask the look of their sneakers, which is hard to ignore.
The mask, which in the perfect scenario will also be approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration in the United States), will be manufactured in their factories in Massachusetts and in Maine. New Balance's goal is to produce every week 100 thousand masks and distribute them to local health institutions and state authorities. While prices for the masks are not yet known, New Balance is working towards flat pricing and/or donations and will continue to produce protective clothing, foot coverings and other personal protective equipment.
