The iMac 2020 remains exactly the same in appearance as the previous generation.
Apple has announced an update for its iMacs. They are processors powered by Intel's 10th generation Comet Lake processors, also embedded higher resolution camera (1080p HD). SSDs are now available as standard, and there will also be several new configuration options – including a “nano-texture” version with less reflective matte glass.
The webcam is perhaps the biggest upgrade for most users. Apple says that the new T2 chip will enable some new functions, such as lighting control and face detection, and the improved camera features should also work in any video calling app, not just FaceTim. But don't get too excited, it's not about face recognition. It's just about ensuring proper exposure in video calls. The iMac won't be able to be unlocked with your face. Despite the new chip, the new iMac does not have any biometric login options, so there is no Face ID or fingerprint sensor.
The T2 chip will enable a few other new features, including support for Hey Siri, a new voice controller that should improve bass, and True Tone for the display.
As for the gut updates, there will be Intel versions with six or eight cores and a 10-core i9. It was high time to switch to an SSD-disk, which will have 256 GB in the basic configuration. It will be available as a free option for users who would like more storage and don't want a larger SSD 1 TB Fusion Drive. On the other hand, those who will have more under their salary will be able to choose SSD-disk with up to 8 TB.
The specifications for the iMac 2020 are probably not enough to convince users of the last generation to reward it. But if you're one of those who's been waiting for an update to all-in-one computer systems, then the new iMac might just be worth a look.
