WOLFE'S HUNGER Arboretum Volčji Potok is a Slovenian icon among parks, and few Bržkos dare to admit that they haven't visited it yet, especially in spring, when thousands of tulips bloom there. About a kilometer further, in the direction of Kamnik, the signs take you to the golf course, next to which the Arboretum restaurant flourishes on a small hill. On beautiful Sunday mornings, tired golfers sit on the sunny terrace in front of the restaurant, with a view of a small lake and well-kept, smooth mowed grass, and over a glass or a dessert, they grind missed and successful balls. As noon strikes, Arboretum opens the kitchen door. Around the round restaurant with a piano in the middle and impeccably set tables, among which we find yellow pumpkins and a basket of ripe grapes, the smell of selected dishes, such as are usually enjoyed on special occasions. In the Arboretum, the food smells like France, even if it's a creamy soup made from yellow pumpkins, the kind that grow in the surrounding fields. Tagliatta with burgundy sauce or cream broule dessert... They make their own gnocchi and noodles, and the menu always includes seasonal dishes: autumn is rich in mushrooms, including black trumpets, which not many people dare to pick. It also smells like wine and the aforementioned burgundy sauce... Sophisticated and sinful.
