Astrodisco enters 2011 with a pioneer of the Berlin techno scene, who, under various pseudonyms, is still writing the history of the most electronic city.
DJ Pete is most widely regarded among techno geeks as the official successor to dub techno fathers Basic Channel, as he opened a sub-label of the Basic Channel institution called Chain Reaction in 1995 in the duo Scion with Rene Lowe. Under the aliases Scion and Substance, he has created several legendary delays and reverbs in his fifteen-year career, and remixed names such as Juan Atkins, Robert Hood and Rhythm & Sound. Pete is also at home in more robust sounds, as evidenced by his residency at the cult Dynamic Tension nights, when he regularly polished the good old Tresor together with the British ironworker Surgeon. Peter Kuschnereit still cherishes techno classicism and hunts for the freshest dubstep vibes, as he is a long-time member of the elite Hardwax record label and a newly-minted resident of the notorious Berghain club.
Check out what the thesis on the last twenty years of minimalist dance electronics sounds like from the perspective of an emeritus Berlin professor on Friday, February 11th at the Ljubljana Kleta.
