Audi S4 and S4 Avant – athletes from the A4 family

Audi S4 and S4 Avant

Audi brought two versions of the new generation of the A4 model to the Geneva Motor Show, the Audi S4 and S4 Avant, the sports version in sedan (S4) and station wagon (S4 Avant) versions, which actually sweated in the gym before the show, as they have a V6-turbo engine with 260 kW of power. They will be available to customers in the summer of 2016.

Audi brought a model to Geneva S4 and S4 Avant, the sporty version of the A4 model. Under the hood, the engineers hid a newly developed one 3.0 liter V6 turbo engine with 350 horsepower (260 kW). It develops maximum power in the range from 1370 to 4500 revolutions per minute, and the torque is exactly 500 Nm. The petrol engine with direct fuel injection and turbocharger brings the sedan from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, while the wagon needs 2 tenths more (4.9 seconds). The speed of both was electronically limited at 250 km/h, and transmits power to the wheels 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox (a feature of the automatic transmission is switching to effective idle, if the driver takes his foot off the gas pedal when driving between 55 and 160 km/h).

The weight of the Audi S4 Avant is 1,675 kilograms (limousine is 45 kg lighter).

His sporty character in addition Quattro drive and the vector transmission of power to the wheels also radiates multi-link fastening of the entire four suspensions, sporty S-chassis, which makes it 23 millimeters lower than the classic A4, however CDC buffers for continuous damping control. The combination of the above gives the driver a lot of "powers" to control the characteristics of the chassis and also the drive. Since the focus of the S4 and S4 Avant is on the engine, Audi has provided even more impressive technical data. It is an extremely efficient unit that consumes less than 7.4 liters of gasoline (in the NEVC cycle) per 100 kilometers, which in terms of emissions means 174 grams CO2 per kilometer (the station wagon version uses a deciliter more).

The steering wheel is progressive, an alternative to electromechanical power steering dynamic control, in which the gear ratio changes along with the speed. It sits on 18-inch wheels (245/40), and the rear disc brakes are as perforated as Swiss cheese and cooled from the inside. The Audi S4 and S4 Avant models brake 6-piston brake calipers, which are basically black, but for a bolder look, red is also available. You see with LED headlights, the turn signals are dynamic, the Avant's trunk is electronic. The seats are a mix nappa leather, alcantara and contrast stitching. There is no infotainment system with internet connectivity (Wi-Fi) and an assistance system, and the gauges are digitized. And the price? Both models will rotate around 60 thousand euros, the limousine on the sunny side, and the station wagon on the shady side of the number. They will be released in the summer of 2016.
