Pierpaolo Lazzarini, known for his unique watercraft concepts, unveils his latest creation, Avanguardia, which translates to "avant-garde".
A megayacht Avanguardia got its name from the position of its control tower, which resembles the head of a swan. This one, (unconsciously) inspired by Japanese manga from the 1970s, is for maneuvering 137 meters long yachts. You can also use the "neck". takes off and transforms into an auxiliary 16-foot boat. When the Avanguardia is in motion, however, the "head" or control chair can adjust its position by moving to the center of the yacht.
The aft part of the yacht deck also includes two reactive capsules, which were also designed by Lazzarini. These can be attached to the structure of the yacht and become its auxiliary drive. Avanguardia is otherwise divided into five decks and can accommodate up to 60 passengers. Propulsion is envisioned with twin all-electric outboard engines, and for added speed, there's a Rolls-Royce MTU system engine that can push the 137-meter yacht to its top cruising speed 18 knots.
What is essentially an exercise in style, according to Lazzarini, could become a reality - if a customer is found willing to invest their capital in Avanguardia. The construction of such a yacht could cost as much as 500 million euros.
