Avatr 07 is a great SUV and a silent killer of European competition and Tesla in the Chinese car market - Huawei strikes back

A Chinese electric SUV that can do more than just drive itself

The Avatr 07 is the new hero of the Chinese electric SUV market, coming from the star trio of Changan, CATL and Huawei. Yes, you read that right – this car has more in common with your smartphone than with your uncle’s diesel Passat. It is available in pure electric (BEV) and extended range hybrid (EREV) versions, and it is priced very confidently – from 219,900 CNY (about 29,000 €), which is almost tastelessly affordable in the “premium SUV with massage seats” class. And it aims high: the competition includes names like Tesla Model Y, Nio ES6 and BYD Tang. Feeling threatened? Maybe you should.

The story of Avatar starts with Nio, who initially flirted with Changan, but then quietly backed out (probably a classic “it’s not the right time for a serious relationship yet”). Today, Avatr is a standalone player, backed by Changan (40 %), CATL (17 %) and a whole bunch of Wall Street capital – Huawei is not the owner, but it is the “technical uncle behind the scenes” who gave it the smart brains and the ability to speak the HarmonyOS language. Avatar 07 but something that today costs the same as the entry-level Tesla Y on the Chinese market.

The Avatr 07 isn't their first rodeo – we've seen the 11 and 12 models before, but the seventh is the first to flirt with the idea that maybe you don't have to panic and look for a charging station every time. The hybrid version (EREV) comes with an extended range and says: "Don't worry, I've got this." It joins the trend that says: electric yes, panic no. By the way – the company has a plan that smells of megalomania: 17 new models in three years, 50 markets by 2025, IPO in 2026. Elon, someone's breathing down your neck.

Electrical engineering with a racing flavour

BEV: You charge, you drive, you say "wow"

The electric version of the Avatra 07 is based on a high-voltage 800V architecture, which sounds like something Iron Man would use to power his armor. In reality, that means: extremely fast charging and high efficiency. The battery (82.16 kWh) supports charging up to 420 kW, which means that in 10 minutes you get 350 km You can't even do that much with most cafes with "free Wi-Fi".

There are two drivetrains available – rear-wheel drive (252 kW, 6.3 seconds to 100 km/h) and all-wheel drive (440 kW, 3.9 seconds). The fastest version is so fast that the seat will literally hug you. And don’t worry – it’s all backed by a cool-blooded system that stays calm even when your heart rate exceeds 120 bpm.

EREV: Electricity with a touch of gasoline cynicism

If you're still not completely comfortable without a "little bit of backup safety", then EREV is your choice. Electric range is 230 km, together with the generator, jumps to 1100 km (a little less realistically, but still epic). The car uses a 1.5-liter engine that doesn't drive the wheels, but generates electricity. It's like driving with a small generator in the trunk - except it's probably quieter than your dishwasher. Noise in the cabin when it's running? 35.7 dB. So… less than your mother-in-law during lunch (depending, of course, on the mother-in-law).

Chassis and battery: not just for flat roads

The chassis is a multi-layered masterpiece of aluminium, with double wishbones at the front and a multi-link rear axle. Air suspension is also available – because even vehicles with soul need the ability to “rise above the situation”.

Aerodynamics? Drag coefficient 0,259 It's very decent – almost like your new Gore-Tex jacket. And don't let the weight (2.2-2.4 tons) scare you – the efficient recuperation system can collect energy like a good mother crumbs on the floor.

Design: When UFO Meets Minimalist Luxury

The exterior of the Avatra 07 is, to be honest, something between a spaceship and a Zen statue. At the front, you'll find the HALO – an LED display with 10,500 diodes, which can display everything from a smile to a warning “don’t park too close to me”. On the roof? LiDAR, of course. Handles? Hidden. Mirrors? Cameras. If you like retro aesthetics, this is not the car for you. But if you want your car to look like it escaped from the future – bingo.

Dimensions: 4825 x 1980 x 1620 mm with a wheelbase of almost 3 meters – making it bigger than the Model Y and a little more confident. Available in “Damson” purple, “Andes” gray, “Jade” green, black or white – each color could be the name of a cocktail in a Shanghai hotel.

Interior: a digital wellness center on four wheels

Forget about classic gauges. Inside, the Avatr 07 offers four screens – central 15.6″, rear 35.4″ (yes, you read that right), two for the mirrors and HALO on the dashboard. If that seems like too many screens to you – this is not the car for you, but for those who wake up in the morning to the light of RGB LED strips.

Seats? “Zero Gravity”, meaning they can recline up to 120° and take you into a state of complete relaxation. Massage, heating, cooling – Avatr 07 pampers you more than your average boutique hotel. Meridian sound system with 25 speakers and 3D sound is just the icing on the cake.

Huawei HarmonyOS 4.0 makes sure your phone and car have a better relationship than you had with your ex. Touch the NFC, click, and you have navigation and music in your car. Super Desktop, Pet Mode, Parenting Mode… all that's missing is "Ex Mode," which blocks all calls from your ex.

Safety and assistance: when the car drives smarter than the driver

The Avatr 07 features Huawei ADS 3.0, a semi-autonomous driving system that puts even professional drivers at risk. Using 192-channel LiDAR, radar, cameras, and algorithms, the car has the same level of intelligence as a secret service agent. Safety systems are there before you even think about danger – from automatic braking to alerts that keep you awake.

The body is fortified like a bunker, the battery protected from intrusion, rocks and even your doubts. The result? 5 stars on C-NCAP, and if it comes to Europe – most likely the same.

Prices and variations: from “already spoiled” to “so spoiled that the lady calls you”

6 versions available – from Pro to Ultra, each with the option of BEV or EREV. Prices start at CNY 219,900 (€29,000) and go up to CNY 289,900 (€38,000). Basic equipment? It already contains more than most of the competing “premium” models in the higher classes. If you want digital mirrors, ADS 3.0, HALO, a four-seat version and color combinations, you’re “Ultra”.

Where to buy it (and why are you already looking for a flight to Shanghai?)

It's already being driven in China, and in droves - sales of the Avatr 07 have sent the company's numbers skyrocketing. In Europe? It's coming. In 2025/26, with the first station in Germany and Norway. If Tesla was the iPhone of cars, the Avatr 07 is probably the sleek Huawei P60 - powerful, beautiful and ready for global expansion.

And the competition?

Tesla, Nio, BYD, Xpeng, Li Auto… they all have their trump cards. But the Avatr 07 plays a smart game: better price-to-technology ratio, bolder design, more digital glitz. If a vehicle can convince you with just a light strip that says “have a nice day,” then this is the right candidate.

Conclusion: smarts, strength, charm and a little space magic

The Avatr 07 is not just an electric SUV. It is a prediction of the direction in which Chinese manufacturers are going: they are no longer just catching up – they are overtakingWith the Avatar 07, the future seems closer, and if the global expansion is successful, it will be a model that will not only compete – but set the standard. The question is no longer, if we will drive cars with HarmonyOS and HALO screens – but when.
