On the stage of SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, the ballet Doctor Zhivago will come to life for the first time! The creators of the show are very well-known ballet artists, the brothers Jiři and Otto Bubeníček, who completed their careers at the John Neumeier Ballet in Hamburg, and today they can boast of being the authors of extremely successful shows on prominent dance stages.
Doctor Zhivago, one of the most beautiful and shocking love stories in the world of art, is a novel by a Russian writer Boris Pasternak, which in 1958 he received Nobel Prize for Literature. The extremely personal and philosophical narrative also talks about aspects of the system and the impact of the revolution on the devaluation of the individual, which of course did not please the authorities of the Soviet Union at the time. Due to the great pressure on him, the writer had to give up the prestigious award.

In the famous British-American film version, directed by David Lean from 1965, she is exposed an intimate love story between Doctor Živag and Lara, which "infected" the audience and the film world (the film received five Oscars and five Golden Globes) and became a classic.
There has not been a ballet re-creation until now, so SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana will be on stage revived the famous story as a dramatic ballet for the first time, which will draw its substance mainly from a love story and the issue of personal freedom.
They will reach for the music Dmitri Shostakovich, a Russian composer and pianist, a major figure in the musical world of the 20th century, who created after the era of Prokofiev and Stravinsky and combined a mixture of styles in his music (neoclassicism, post-romanticism). Music was created, full of sharp contrasts and also grotesque. The creators of the show are two very famous ballet artists, brothers Jiři and Otto Bubeníček, who completed their careers at the John Neumeier Ballet in Hamburg, and today they can boast as authors extremely successful performances on prominent dance stages. The orchestra will be conducted by the maestro Marko Gasperšič.
