With the new F 450 GS concept, BMW Motorrad enters the world of light but powerful motorcycles that promise excellent handling and enjoyment on any terrain. Where will this model shine? Find out below.
With the F 450 GS, BMW Motorrad opens a completely new chapter and answers the demand for compact motorcycles for road and off-road riding. This boldly designed model fills the gap between the G 310 and the F 800/900 and brings with it the unmistakable style of the GS series. BMW's fresh concept proves that great performance can also be found in smaller packages.
A design that fascinates
Visually, the F 450 GS is true to BMW - recognizable by the colors blue, white and red with the base color Racing Blue metallic, as in the bigger brothers of the GS series. Alexander Buckan, Chief Designer of BMW Motorrad, commented: "We designed a concept that preserves the sporty and dynamic design of the GS series in a compact and accessible form." The result is a motorcycle that promises adventure and freedom at first glance.
Newly developed two-cylinder engine: Smaller, but completely unique
At the heart of the F 450 GS is an all-new two-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 48 hp (35 kW), which is designed with an innovative ignition sequence, which enables a particularly responsive and rich engine character. Despite its compact design and low weight, the engine delivers performance that will satisfy even the most demanding drivers. The lightweight yet powerful motor uses materials such as magnesium to achieve an optimal power-to-weight ratio.
Performance: Street and off-road fighter
BMW designed the F 450 GS with different terrains in mind. The model is equipped with a fully adjustable USD fork and a rear shock that adapts to the load. Marc Weber, lead engineer, says the goal is to create a motorcycle that combines outstanding off-road performance with precise on-road handling. Using lightweight materials and advanced solutions, the F 450 GS is close to a minimum weight of 175 kg – a true featherweight in the off-road motorcycle world.
Advanced technology and security
As with the larger GS models, the BMW F 450 GS includes advanced safety and connectivity technology. The motorcycle offers ABS Pro, adjustable riding modes and a 6.5-inch TFT screen for seamless connectivity with smart devices. The concept also provides functionality and flexibility by using state-of-the-art safety features and user-friendly solutions.
A look into the future: Production version in 2025
BMW is already planning series production of the model, which will retain the basic characteristics of the concept, but will bring some improvements for better accessibility and everyday usability. Additional options include the choice of cast aluminum wheels that will replace the standard cross-spoke wheels.
