Zebra bookstore-store goes to the moon - a store with a noble purpose

Bookstore-store A zebra goes to the moon opened its doors at Stari trg 24 in Ljubljana. Bookstore and shop Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Ljubljana, the first institution for the upbringing and education of people with special needs, plows fallow land in Slovenia raising public awareness of the abilities, talents and knowledge of children and adolescents with special needs in the field of hearing, speech and communication.

Who or what is ZGN Ljubljana? The Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is Ljubljana leading institution in the country for education, training and rehabilitation of deaf and hard of hearing people, people with speech and language disorders and people with autism. It takes care of the comprehensive development of children, pupils and students who have special needs in the aforementioned areas. Since most graduates do not get a job after successfully completing their education, ZNG Ljubljana opens a bookstore and shop in the center of the capital for this period of their lives.

What it offers bookstore-store Zebra going to the moon? Products that are created during lessons and occupational therapy both at the level of kindergarten and primary school as well as in the context of career orientations at secondary school. Since there are not enough of these products, ZGN Ljubljana also invited them to participate young people who have completed their educational journey in their institution (in the fields of computer science, graphics, printing, textiles, woodworking and mechanical engineering) and who have not found employment. In the workshops, the aforementioned young people work under the mentorship of masters unique products for furnishing the home, souvenirs related to Ljubljana and Slovenia, artistic and other handicrafts and much more. They are also offered in the bookstore-store professional literature, which was created in their institution, within the framework of the Association of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Associations of Slovenia, in the Vilko Mazi Society and in the Portorož Hearing and Speech Center - books, magazines and newspapers. It will also offer literature from other publishers that deal with content from the lives of children with special needs.

The Zebra bookstore is going to the moon social and info page. They will organize in it presentations of successful people with special needs, discussion evenings, small cultural events, creative workshops, get-togethers, professional lectures, Slovenian sign language courses, seminars for the lay and interested public etc. In it, it will be possible to obtain information about educational opportunities for the deaf and hard of hearing, speech-language impaired and people with autistic disorders, about the possibilities of rehabilitation and integration and inclusion of this vulnerable group of people. They will be in it trained young people to work independently in the store, students from ZGN Ljubljana will be involved in the store, who will acquire knowledge and social skills in communication, handling money, serving, etc. within the subject of the open curriculum.
