Meet the new Brother Vellies footwear brand with a touch of African tradition that preserves the spirit and sustainability of the ancestors there. Traditional African footwear inspired designer Aurora James, who combined tradition with fresh functionality and placed herself at the top of high fashion with a modern-traditional design.
Brooklyn-based creative director Aurora James founded the company in January 2013 in order to preserved the old craft of footwear manufacturing in Africa and thus made it possible creating new jobs in South Africa, Kenya and Namibia. Excited about traditional African footwear launched the first collection together with African artisans in the summer of 2013.
Brand Brother Vellies has become a real summer hit with a wide selection of shoes with flat soles, open toes and shoes with a silk ribbon around the ankle, reminiscent of ballet slippers. Handmade shoes and sandals are made with inspiration "dessert" of African sandals, and they are made by the locals with the knowledge of their ancestors. The offer includes women's and men's models, as well as models for children. Every few months, the founder and designer travels to the land of opportunity and, in cooperation with local artisans, devises new ways of preserving old crafts and creates new models of her favorite shoes.
