While bicycles offer one of the most economical and useful forms of transportation, their weak points are often safety (on a bicycle, we are exposed to both traffic and weather), storage space, and comfort. The German company Canyon Bicycles is well aware of this reality, and they are working to bridge the gap between the bike and the car by rewarding the popular two-wheeler with a fully enclosed cabin, plenty of storage space and a more comfortable space for the rider.
Canyon Future Mobility Concept or Podbike is a vehicle for one to a maximum of two passengers, comparable to a recumbent bicycle covered with a body. The design is still driven by the pedals that assist them battery with 2,000 Wh, which can propel the bike up to speed 56 km/h. The range of the futuristic concept is more than 144 kilometers. Hand controls for steering and braking are cleverly integrated into the doors, while a smartphone station sits at the driver's feet, between the pedals.
The shape of the vehicle still allows for the general mobility of a traditional bicycle and "winding" through city traffic, except that driving it is significantly more comfortable. In addition to weather protection, the cabin is completely enclosed also protects against collisions with other vehicles. If we want, we can open it and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.
A concept we still want to make a reality!
