The thriller 2:22 is coming to our cinemas in July. It will follow Dylan Branson (Michiel Huisman), a man for whom certain events repeat themselves day after day, but at the same time they always end at 14:22 (2:22 pm). After falling in love with Sarah (Teresa Palmer), a beautiful girl threatened by these events, he must solve their secret to keep his love.
In the movie 24 Hours to Live (2017), Ethan Hawke will surprise us this time in the role of mercenary Travis Conrad, who is forced by circumstances to have only one day to complete his mission. Through the tense last twenty-four hours he has left due to a strange medical experiment, he is driven by revenge for the death of his wife and son.
Somewhat older readers probably remember the dramatic events of 1980, when six Islamic extremists seized the Iranian embassy in London and took 26 people hostage. The drama, which was then broadcast live on British television, can now be relived on the big screen in the film 6 Days (the Nimrod rescue operation took place for six days). For those of you who don't know and don't want to know the outcome, don't read any further and just watch the suspenseful trailer.
Last year we were able to catch the comedy Bad Moms (2016) in cinemas, in which Mila Kunis, Kathryn Hahn and Kirsten Bell appeared. The film was a financial success, so we will soon get a sequel, which will be shown this year.
But Bigger Splash has nothing to do with painter David Hockney's mammoth painting, except for sunlit swimming pools, cloudless skies and splashes of water as actors jump into it. Among them is Dakota Johnson, who, like in Fifty Shades of Grey, also puts her charms on display in this film. Therefore, this Italian-French mystery black comedy leans somewhat more, but still loosely, on the film La Piscine, also an Italian-French production from 1969.
Dog lovers, get your tissues ready! Just as Hachiko: The Story of the Loyal Dog and Marley and Me made your eyes water, so will A Dog's Purpose, presented by Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment on International Dog Day (August 26). The film, based on the book of the same name by W. Bruce Cameron from 2010, was directed by Lasse Hallström, who also signed the film about Hačik with Richard Gero.
Although A Ghost Story is not a film that was previously talked about much, many critics called it the film of 2017 after screening it at the Sundance Film Festival. It is an American drama by David Lowery with Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara about a deceased ghost that returns home to bond with his wife.
A Hologram for the King is a German-American film by Tom Tykwer (Alts of the Clouds, Perfume), based on the novel of the same name by Dave Eggers from 2012. The title role has been entrusted to Tom Hanks, who was last seen in the film Bridge of Spies. Hanks is one of only two actors to win two Oscars in a row, the first for his role in the drama Philadelphia, the second a year later for his role in the comedy drama Forrest Gump. This time, too, he starred in a touching comedy-drama, except that his character is still not so confused.
The fantasy drama A Monster Calls, directed by JA Bayona, is based on the book of the same name by Patrick Ness (in our country it was translated as Seven Minutes to Midnight), who also signed the screenplay for the film about a boy named Conor O'Malley, who is dealing with the illness of his terminally ill mother on the one hand and the bully at school on the other. One night, at seven past midnight, a tree monster visits him to confide in him a story.
There is also a new Disney movie coming out next year called A Wrinkle in Time. The first trailer was already shown these days at Disney's D23 festival, but now it can also be viewed on the world wide web.
The sci-fi comedy Absolutely Anything is interesting from several aspects. First of all, it is a very tempting premise, where a disillusioned teacher in the image of Simon Pegg suddenly discovers that he has the ability to do anything he wants. Whatever! It's a challenge that they give him - and here's another interesting thing - a digitally animated group of aliens, voiced by the legendary members of the Monty Python team. Then there's the talking dog, voiced by the late Robin Williams.
We are used to Arnold Schwarzenegger in macho roles where there is no room for emotions. But in the drama Aftermath, the popular Schwarzi also shows her softer side. The film, based on real events, was produced by cult director Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan). In it, the famous Gradčan plays the architect Viktor, who has to face the death of his wife and daughter due to the error of the air traffic controller, which causes the collision of two planes.
