The cave mansion in front of the Postojna Cave, where Emperor Franz Joseph and Elizabeth stopped 140 years ago and where the carters were regular guests, still takes us back to those times today, with an imperial, carter's or medieval feast. The hall's ambience with high ceilings, a long table, wooden plates, themed employees and food made according to recipes from those times are a real experience. At the medieval feast, we can try yeast dough with stuffed vegetables, deer in a rabbit's embrace, stuffed baked apples, leek soup and lots of herbs. There were no desserts back then, but instead there were dried fruits and nuts. The basis of the carter's feast is a good soup, stew and goulash in many ways. We can also try roasts, štruklji, žganci and desserts with cinnamon and honey. At the imperial feast, we indulge in potatoes with caviar, fish roulade with sea frog, sea bass, scampi and salmon, and emperor's rolls with cabbage. The empress's dishes include chocolate mousse, shortcrust pastry and chocolate cake. If we stop by for lunch at Jamski dvorec, they offer Slovenian national dishes in a modern version, with an emphasis on the Karst cuisine of the interior. For the appetizer, which they call a cold breeze, they prepare homemade prosciutto with herbal cottage cheese or a vegetable surprise. The bora wind from the sea brings bleke with mushrooms, risotto with squid and chicory, and aubergine gratin with polenta and basil to the table. Among the dishes from all winds, they highlight foal medallion in their own sauce, pork fillet with plums and chicken fillet in gorgonzola sauce with pepper. And finally, like a warm mistral, our taste buds are caressed by one of the homemade desserts, such as Brkini apple pie, chestnut slice, or chocolate cake according to Queen Sisi's recipe.
