Suunto aims to compete with Apple and Garmin with a new smartwatch presented at CES 2020. Some features of the Suunto 7 smartwatch will definitely tip the scales in their favor.
Each operating system has its advantages. But most smartwatch manufacturers prefer to use their own if they also produce smartphones at the same time. In principle, this enables better mutual communication with the watch, but the user experience is somewhat weak if we dare to use the watch with a phone from another manufacturer. Suunto Stren will not interfere with us, as he did with the new watch Suunto 7, which he presented at CES 2020, decided to use Wear OS, Google's operating system for smartwatches. So it will get along perfectly with any Android phone.
The Suunto 7 smartwatch will satisfy both regular gym goers (measuring 70+ different exercises) and serious runners like adventurers, who like to go to places where the mobile signal is not the most favorable for them. The clock will allow Offline GPS navigation and maps. Since it is a Google system, it will also be possible to talk to Google Assistant, listen to voice guidance through Google Maps navigation and pay with Google Pay.
It will be quite a hefty watch, as it measures quite a bit in width 5 cm, and in thickness 1.5 cm. Extremely bright AMOLED display (454 x 454 resolution, brightness 1000-nits) will protect the glass Gorilla Glass, and the watch will withstand swimming up to a depth of 50 meters. The battery will last under normal use, without the use of smart functions up to 40 days, anyway 2 days respectively 12 hours with intensive use of the GPS signal. According to all specifications, Suunto 7 competes with both Apple and Garmin, but users will decide whether it will be able to replace them. The pre-sale has already started, and the price is 479 euros.
