City Beaches: Paris, France #4

Fashion-conscious Parisians transfer French chic to the 2,000 tons of sand poured along the Siena River and its tributaries in about four summer weeks. It's no wonder that the nation that gave us the bikini was the first to remember how to move the beach to the city.

Already in 2002, instead of cars, the embankments of the river started hosting Paris Plages, Parisian beaches that open their doors around July 20 and delight locals and visitors until the end of August. The beaches are spread over three parts of the city. The closest to the old core is part from the Louvre to the Pont de Sully, which was also the first city beach.

It stretches for three kilometers through the historic part of Paris, and offers sports activities (tai-chi, climbing, skateboarding) and, of course, sunbeds and cold drinks.
