Is diving a pastime or a sport? Both.

A little more than twenty years ago, Dave Kalama, Laird Hamilton and their Hawaiian colleagues probably had no idea that they would make history in sports. Successful and world-famous wave riders, when the sea did not offer high waves for surfing, took a paddle to their boards and trained by stand-up paddling. It didn't take long for others to follow suit, first in Hawaii, later in California and beyond. The turn of the millennium is considered the beginning of modern paddle surfing (supanja), which is currently the fastest developing sport. Because it is an attractive activity, the popularity of diving can be seen at every turn. In the last few years, Slovenia has been "overwhelmed" by more and more enthusiastic young people and a little less young people who take up surfing on all types of water.

When we talk about swimming at the sea or lake during vacations, we mean leasy, simple and accessible activity for everyone. The immense joy of children climbing on the board and jumping off it, parents riding the children on the sleds as passengers, frolicking with pets, relaxed exploration of nature from the surface of the water... Sound familiar? It's all bullshit. But it's not just that! When a fun activity outgrows the scope of a weekly vacation, when we go on the water on our own after school or work, then we can we are talking about recreation and sports.

We sweat during sports, but what about soup?

You can too. The length and intensity of rowing can be adjusted to wishes and needs, time frames and desired results. Rare activities offer movement to the whole body and Snoring wakes up every muscle group. The arms and shoulder girdle take care of the movement, the core (abdominal muscles or "six-pack") keep the body in balance, while the legs soften the oscillation of the board and transfer the energy produced from the upper body to the board and its sliding on the water surface. With the help of regular brushing we improve physical condition, strengthen all muscle groups and improve balance. Because of the activities on the water, there is also swimming relaxing activity – calmed down and with a clear head, you will be happy to devote yourself to work or family.

How to get started with recreational vaping?

Paddling is a sport where you will develop strength and improve your technique, and with regular paddling you will become faster and able to visit more distant locations. If you already have a board (even if you don't have one yet), you will be in Ljubljana the easiest way to start recreationally in Sup club. The club offers everything on the subject of clubbing. They help at the first steps on the soup and they teach you the basics in the Little School of Supanja. You can hone your technique and strength in the frame individual lessons, recreational swimming with a coach or through preparations for serious competitions. Swimming is suitable as a sport for children from 8 years old, youth and also all employees. The Sup Club organizes two or three massively attended competitions every year, which are also attended by their members. This year it will be on the program for the fifth time Ljubljanica SUP Challenge: an interesting competition for the competitors due to the theatrical and urban environment and the crowd of fans, but for the spectators on the coast and on the bridges it is practically the only opportunity to follow the competition from close range.

A pearl among our lakes is suitable for all levels of surfing skills. It is especially popular in summer, when we can retreat to the quiet middle of the lake on a pleasantly warm lake. The risk is a strong wind that can appear suddenly and make it difficult for us to return to the starting location. There are several possibilities to rent a board by the lake.

A popular tourist destination for domestic and foreign tourists, the special attraction of which is an island in the middle of the lake and a mighty rock with a castle above the calm surface of the lake. The location is suitable for all levels of diving skills, but in the high season it can be difficult to get to and from the water with a snorkel due to the abundance of bathers. There are several possibilities to rent a board by the lake.

Cerknica lake
An autumn and spring destination where we recommend swimming with equipment suitable for the season. A dry suit or at least a neoprene suit will prevent hypothermia if you fall into cold water in the cold autumn or early spring. We suggest that you bring your own board or rent it, as there is no rental option at the lake.

Gradiško lake

The location, only a 20-minute drive from Ljubljana in the direction of Trojan, offers the mystery and quiet seclusion of a sunken valley. The artificial lake created during the construction of the Styrian highway is suitable for all levels of surfing skills. Movement is not recommended on the eastern part of the lake, where there are fish spawning grounds - it is recommended to swim between the entry point on the western part and all the way to the pier, which looks from the water on two-thirds of the lake in the direction to the east.

Ljubljanica
The most popular destination in Supar, which takes you through Plečnik's Ljubljana, under many bridges, through picturesque views of colorful facades and the mighty castle above the city. The location is suitable for those who have already rowed a few kilometers, for the first time it is recommended to be accompanied by an instructor. Dangers include heavy shipping traffic and other participants on the water, as well as heavy water currents after heavy rains. Parking and board rental are available in the Sup club.

An artificial reservoir lake, a popular tourist destination in the immediate vicinity of Ljubljana with famous swans and lots of green, unspoiled nature. A location suitable for all levels of windsurfing, with parking and board hire in Wasup.

A boathouse with tradition on the left bank of the Sava, closer to Kranj, also on the reservoir lake of the hydroelectric plant, where paddling is suitable for all skill levels. Beginners are recommended to be accompanied by an instructor. In ŠD Amfibija, it is possible to rent a board.

Lake Velenjsko
A peaceful lake in the Štajer/Šales part of Slovenia, where the landscaped surroundings and beautiful walking trails take your breath away. Due to the subsidence of the ground above the Velenje mine, the lake changes and outlines its picturesque coast differently from visit to visit. Organized parking and access to the water is possible in the southern part of the lake next to the autocamp. The location is suitable for all skill levels, on windy days the wind can be too strong, so we recommend checking the weather forecast. Boards can be rented at the Zoo Station.

Also one of the most beautiful destinations, definitely worth visiting and spending a day or two exploring the Soča and its tributaries. It offers plenty of opportunities to row upstream or with it, a stop on the beaches of Idrijce and a delicious lunch at local restaurants. Due to the calm flow and picturesqueness, it is a suitable location for all skill levels. Occasional high winds can be a problem. We recommend that you bring your own or borrowed board.

For more advanced paddlers, paddling into the wind, through smaller or larger waves, around a lighthouse or a weather station is certainly a challenge and more expensive... There are several locations available, you can use the access in a motor camp, a well-maintained beach in or near cities, you can along wild beaches or remote lonely paths. You also have several options for renting boards or hiring an instructor.

Regardless of the destination of your soup explorations and adventures, ALWAYS use a safety lanyard. Remember that the wind blows farther and the waves roll farther and faster than we swim. A safety line can be your link to life.
