The Oscars are known as the most predictable film awards, and it looks like this year will be no exception. After La La Land swept the competition at the Golden Globes, the Critics' Choice Awards and the BAFTA British Film Awards, it looks like the popular Hollywood musical will take home a few Oscars on Sunday night (probably including the Oscar for Best movie). But despite its predictability, the Oscars have historically thrown up a few surprises in the form of various fashion fiascos, on-stage mishaps and inspirational speeches. Adrien Brody kisses Halle Berry
An unexpected kiss that will be remembered forever by both Halle Berry and the general public. She got it when Adrien Brody won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2003 (The Pianist, 2002).
Marisa Tomei's unpredictable victory
When Marisa Tomei won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for My Cousin Vinny (1992), beating out Judy Davis, Vanessa Redgrave and Miranda Richardson, some in the audience assumed her name was read from the text display (trottle drum) after mistakes. The Academy eventually resolved the matter.
The fall of Jennifer Lawrence
After Jennifer Lawrence was announced as the recipient of the Oscar in 2013, she was so surprised that she fell down the stairs on her way to collect the award. She began her speech with her characteristic sincerity: "You are standing now only because I feel sorry for you. It's pretty embarrassing, but thanks anyway.”
Jack Palance doing push-ups on stage
After Jack Palance won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for City Boys (1991), he began his speech by lamenting the fact that directors often question the abilities of older actors. He decided to prove his masculinity and started doing one-arm push-ups on stage.

Many speculated that Cher's unusual outfit may have had something to do with being ignored for a potential nomination for her role in Mask (1985). The actress and singer then decided that she would rather be who she is than try to convince the public to take her seriously.

Patricia Arquette won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Boyhood (2014). She used this opportunity to point out something much more serious. She drew attention to the difference between men's and women's salaries. ”This is for every woman who has given birth, every taxpayer and every citizen: we must fight for equal rights. Now is the time for all women in the United States to have the same pay and the same rights as men.” Her speech was so encouraging that Meryl Streep almost jumped out of her chair and shouted her support.
Marlon Brando turns down an Oscar
Marlon Brando was awarded an Oscar for his role as Vito Corleone in The Godfather, but he refused to attend the ceremony. But he sent a Native American woman, civil rights activist Sacheen Littlefeather, who read the star's letter and explained that Brando was refusing an Oscar because of the portrayal of American Indians in films.
