Italian designer Tobia Zambotti designed the Coat-19, using light blue disposable protective masks as padding. With it, he wants to draw attention to the pollution represented by protective masks in a creative way.

In the month of March 2021, the Italian designer wanted to emphasize the environmental problem created by discarded masks in a creative way, so he designed sofa, which was filled with masks. But this time he did it of a new project, at which it is made a down jacket.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, disposable masks have been crucial in preventing the spread of the virus, but if masks are not disposed of properly, they represent a major threat to our environment.

The designer decided to collect around 1,500 bright blue masks from the streets of Reykjavík before they ended up in the ocean. Zambotti then thoroughly disinfected them with ozone gas and sent them to a fashion design student, who turned the recycled masks into unusual coat stuffing.

Most disposable masks on the market are made from a thermoplastic called polypropylene, which is also used to make the most common acrylic filler for cheap down jackets: same material, same function, different look.
