A portrait of Rome in all its splendor and superficiality, exceptionalism and ingenuity. Among the decadent characters, we are led by a cynical writer in an existential convulsion, tired of the shallow world. A tribute to Fellini's Sweet Life.
Rome at the height of summer. Yep Gambardella, a charming, witty man in his mature years, once a successful journalist and a great seducer, likes to attend fancy dinners and high society parties. In his youth, he wrote a novel for which he earned an important prize and a reputation as a frustrated writer. He hides his disappointment now under the guise of cynicism and observes the world around him with bitter rationality. On the terrace of his Roman apartment with a view of the Colosseum throwing parties and with gin-clouded eyes he watches the passing of the human species at its most bland, empty, socially powerful but depressing version. They are chasing him memories of youthful love and sometimes he dreams of starting to write again. Will he be able to overcome the disgust he feels for himself and humanity in general?
It's a movie winner of the European Film Awards 2013, which he received for best film, best director, Toni Servillo but he won the award for the best actor. In addition, the film also boasts an award Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
