Mark Knopfler, one of the most critically and commercially successful artists of all time, has announced a world tour with his band in 2019. He will start the Down The Road Wherever tour next April with a concert in Barcelona, and will visit Ljubljana on June 29, 2019.
Mark Knopfler has sold as one of the greatest guitarists of all time more than 120 million albums so with the cast Dire Straits as on the path of an independent career. Many of his songs have become classics: Money For Nothing, Brothers in Arms, Sultans Of Swing, Romeo & Juliet and Walk Of Life. He issued eight solo albums, and he also contributed music to many films such as Local Hero, The Princess Bride and Altamira. In addition to his own records, Knopfler also produced albums for giants such as Bob Dylan and Randy Newman. In 1999, Knopfler became BOTH and in 2012 he received the British Ivor Novello Award a prestigious award for life's work.
Knopfler, which will release on November 16 his ninth solo studio album Down the Road Anywhere, has always had tours as an integral part of the album release process, which begins with the creation and recording of songs in the studio, and ends with a tour where they play new and old songs live with the band. It will be on the album 14 unforgettably elegant new Knopfler songs, inspired by a wide range of influences. So his early days in Deptford with Dire Straits, when he was a football fan lost in a strange city, when he was hobbling home from gigs in the snow, or when he was hanging out in the corner local pubs.
