After seven years, Neneh Cherry, an icon of engaged electronic pop and hip-hop, returns to Ljubljana. This time she will visit us with her own band. In addition to old hits such as 7 Seconds, she will present to us the brand new album Broken Politics, which she recorded with Kieran Hebden (Four Tet).
Neneh Cherry began her independent musical journey years ago 1982, and even before that she sang in postpunk bands The Slits and Rip Rig and Panic. Solo debut Raw Like Sushi, one of the 1001 albums you must hear before you die, was released in 1989, featuring two members Massive Attack, and she worked as an arranger on Massive Attack's debut Blue Lines (1991). Many still remember her hit from that time I've Got You Under My Skin, in the nineties, she cemented her reputation as a global star with a hit 7 Seconds, which she sang together with To Youssou N'Dour, the most popular Senegalese musicians of all time. Since then, Neneh has been a regular on world stages, but it was only the collaboration with his compatriot Mats Gustafsson and the band The Thing that made him brought to Slovenia for the first time.
Broken Politics represents the continuation of Neneh and Kieran's collaboration that began on the previous album Blank Project (2014). The album, which was created in family, friendly atmosphere, not as angry and punchy as Blank Project, but more so calm and soulful, where anger, thoughtfulness, melancholy and excitement radiate in equal measure from his core. In addition to Four Tet, he also signed on as the album's producer 3D (Massive Attack).
