If you have curly hair, you're well aware that it doesn't come with an instruction manual. And so it was designed by people who tried many methods until they came up with the Curly Girl Method or CGM for short. And as someone who follows this method, I can tell you that CGM really changes your hair. For the better, of course! Read why.

What is the Curly Girl Method?

The Curly Girl Method was officially developed by a hairdresser and hair curling expert Lorraine Massey. In The Curly Girl Guide, she's compiled tips for great curly hair using specific products and styling techniques. Basically, most of the information you'll find online is usually a variation of Massey's original CGM method, which has been modified over the years to include a wider range of curl products and different styling techniques.

Does the Curly Girl Method Work for Everyone?

Unfortunately, no. Since the whole goal of CGM is to make your curls healthier, fuller and more defined, you need to have at least a little bit of wavy hair to start with. It's good to know your hair type, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't experiment if you have straighter hair.

How to do the Curly Girl procedure?

Wash your hair with shampoo, which does not contain sulfates and silicones. Apply balm without silicones all over the hair. If you have more oily hair, avoid the scalp, otherwise you can apply it on the scalp as well. Use instead of a towel cotton shirt. Let it be a shirt that is not a shame and you will not wear it again. Wrap your hair first and wait a few minutes, then unroll the t-shirt and use it from the bottom up you wave hair to form curls.

You can apply a moisturizing cream or serum to your hair. The curls will thus be flexible for a longer time, just make sure that the products do not contain silicones. If possible, air-dry your hair, but if you are drying it with a hair dryer, use a diffuser and the lowest heat setting.

This is a process that you have to do for a while to allow your hair to recover from various heavy cosmetic treatments. Let it be constant blow-drying, ironing, curling, dyeing, bleaching. If possible, do not dye your hair or use thermal styling tools. It might sound difficult but it's worth it because your curls will come back to life.
