The Biennale of Slovenian Independent Illustration is returning to Kino Šiška, which will host more than 24 artists and artistic collectives who create on the borders of different practices.
An independent platform was established in 2007 out of a need to redefine the concept of illustration, since, as the organizers wrote, "contemporary creative practices have long since been surpassed, and the unresponsiveness of the profession has pushed a whole generation of young creators to the edge of artistic practices. Modern illustration, as a rule, was for a long time only placed between the parameters of commercial and artistic production, which meant that the potentials that usually come to derivatives of modern illustration - mischievousness, social criticism, hybridity, heterogeneity and easy jumping over of barriers between different types - were stuck on the sidelines. expressive media.”
Biennale but with each edition it proves once again that the authors, for most of whom narrative expression is part of their lifestyle, are attracted and driven by enthusiasm, curiosity, imagination and freshness. This time, the Biennale of Slovenian Independent Productions will host more than 24 artists and artistic collectives who create on the borders of different practices.
An overview exhibition with the works of all the participants will be on display, at various locations in Ljubljana we will be able to see five more independent author's projects, and Kino Šiška will host a number of accompanying events, which this year focus on connecting Biennial of Independents with the Finnish Aalto University from Hlesinki.
