This is a new hiking trail in the Dolomites that advocates for more sustainable tourism.
A new 7-day hiking trail in the Dolomites is called Camma's Retica and travels through ten idyllic villages. Through lush valleys and past some of the most famous or historical places of the region. Let's face it, Italy is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the world. The Italian government has taken many measures to minimize the impact of tourism on the population and the environment.
To this end, they introduced a tourist tax for a one-day visit to Venice, and they also flirted with banning ice cream in Milan. On the other hand, the government is trying to highlight lesser-known destinations. All with the aim of encouraging more sustainable tourism. For this purpose, they have already introduced a tourist train that runs from Rome to Dolomites, with which they want to limit car transport in the region. In a further effort to attract more visitors to the unspoiled nature of the region in northern Italy, a brand new hiking trail has also recently been opened.
Cammino Retico – A new hiking trail in the Dolomites
Camma's Retica is a new 7-day hiking trail, about 170 km long, which runs through the Dolomites in Italy. The route starts in the municipality of Imèr and ends in the town Madonna di Campiglio, and leads through ten charming villages and offers views of lush valleys and ancient historical sites. Highlights along the way include the Sanctuary of San Vittore and Corona, the Feltrino Fjord at Lake Corlo and the walled city of Feltre. The route is mostly gravel with some asphalted sections, but by 2025 there will also be a bicycle version for mountain and e-bikes.
"This is an opportunity for tourists to discover the culture and traditions of these unspoiled and less populated rural areas," Francesco De Bortoli of the Carpe Diem association told euronews, "and walking is the best way to do that."
The journey takes you through 10 different villages in the Veneto and Trentino regions. You can choose from 50 different accommodation options during the journey. Among others, in the mountain community in the town of Feltre and in the village by Lake Arsiè.
