DJI introduced the action camera back in 2019, and since then it has focused mainly on drones and similar toys. Finally, it's time to move on - meet the DJI Action 2, which looks and functions quite differently from the original. So - a completely new story.
First, the camera itself is an extremely small, square-shaped “thing”. Measuring just 39 x 39 x 22.3 mm and weighing just 56 g (1.53 x 1.53 x 0.88 in, 2 oz), the exterior is made of aluminum alloy. Unlike cameras GoPro it has this fully functional 1.76-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 446 x 424 pixels and 500 nits of brightness.
A big part of success GoPro can be attributed to its diverse ecosystem of supplements. DJI clearly had this in mind when making it Action 2, to offer users a large ecosystem. The ultra-portable camera that's really small has a magnetic attachment system that supports a variety of attachment methods, headbands, and more. It has a 12 megapixel CMOS sensor that captures 4K video at a speed of up to 120 frames per second, with an ultra-wide field of view of 155 ° and a built-in stabilization algorithm. Drop-proof, dust-proof and water-resistant to depths of up to 10 meters (or up to 60 with an optional waterproof case), it lives up to its “Action” name.
The camera is equipped with 1/1.7 inch sensor with resolution 12MP and an ultra-wide 155° aperture lens f/2.8. DJI has improved the stabilization features with Rocksteady 2.0 and HorizonSteady, which ensure that the horizon remains horizontal no matter how much the camera moves.

Action 2 can record 4K video at up to 120 frames per second in mode 16: 9 and up to 60 frames per second in 4:3 mode, the maximum bitrate is 130 Mbpss, recorded on 32 GB of internal memory (fewer are available to the user). Memory is expandable with microSD cards (up to 256GB), but the card slot is found on some modules and not on the camera itself. For slow-motion recording, the camera can reach up to 240 frames per second in 1080p 16:9 mode. Inside is a 580 mAh battery.
The camera is waterproof, so you can use it without additional protection submerge up to 10 m of water. But this camera gets a whole lot better when you throw in the extras – it's a modular camera. You can't swap out the sensor and lenses like you can with the Insta360 One R, but you can still greatly expand the functionality of the camera itself.
Front display module touch is intended for vloggers. First, the front screen allows them to frame the shot (some of the original Action is also on the GoPro). Also has 4 microphones for better audio capture and an additional battery (1,300 mAh), the mod allows the camera to record up to 160 minutes.
The power supply module extends the recording time up to 180 minutes (again, the second battery has a capacity of 1300 mAh). Modules are hot-swappable, so you can continue if you have more than one.
Then it is DJI took another page out of the camera manual Insta360 and created a series of magnetic accessories. There are simple ones like the Magnetic Adapter Mount (for use with GoPro-style mounts) and the Magnetic Ball Mount Mount.
There is also a magnetic pendant that you can wear under your shirt or on a headband, both useful for PoV shots. The remote control extension is also a stand/selfie stick combo that comes with a detachable wireless remote control.
There are many more. If you want to dive into the water, there is a waterproof case that allows you to descend up to 60 m, there's also a floating handle if you're not going that deep. DJI has even created a macro lens attachment for the camera so you can get some creative shots.
DJI Mic is a wireless accessory so vloggers can capture more dynamic footage than with the front-facing mod, and it also enables voice commands so you can start shooting hands-free. In fact, the system contains as many as two microphones that can work at distances of up to 250 m. The receiver acts as a level monitor and has a touch screen for easy operation. The DJI Mic can be pre-ordered for 330 €. A great solution where sound is a really important factor in production quality!
DJI Action 2 can be pre-ordered today, shipping will begin by early November. The Power Combo (camera, power module, cord holder and adapter) costs €400. The dual-screen combo adds a front-facing touchscreen module and a magnetic ball-and-socket mount to the mix, costing €520. Orders are possible at the official DJI store.
