Dongfeng, China's state-owned auto giant, has announced an ambitious expansion into the European market as it seeks to increase its presence outside its home market. In 2024, their new model Dongfeng Nammi 01 (Nammi Box) will be launched in Europe. The move is part of the company's broader strategy to penetrate the European market with affordable and compactly designed electric vehicles.
Model Nammi 01 (Nammi Box), which was first presented in China at the end of 2023, stands out with its compact dimensions and practical design. The vehicle measures 4,030 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,660 mm. These dimensions place it in the class of small SUVs, slightly larger than typical city cars. The trunk offers a volume of 326 liters up to a maximum of 945 liters with the rear seats folded down, which puts it alongside models such as the Opel Corsa Electric and Citroën e-C3.
Technical characteristics
The Nammi 01 (Nammi Box) is powered by a front-mounted electric motor with a power of 70 kW, which enables a maximum speed of 140 km/h. There are two versions of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries: a 31.5 kWh battery that provides a range of up to 330 km (205 miles) according to the Chinese CLTC standard, and a 42.3 kWh battery with a range of up to 430 km (267 miles ). In Europe, where the stricter WLTP standards apply, the range with the larger battery is estimated at around 310 km (193 miles). The vehicle also supports fast charging, where up to 200 km of range can be achieved in just eight minutes at a fast charger, although the details of the charging power are not known.
Price and availability
In Switzerland, the Nammi Box (that's the official EU name) will be available at a price of around 23,000 euros, while in Norway the selling price will be around 189,000 kroner (around 16,000 euros). The vehicle is already attracting a lot of interest, especially among buyers looking for an affordable, practical and modern electric car.
Dongfeng's expansion into the European market with the Nammi 01 model is a strategic move by which the company aims to capture the growing segment of electric vehicle buyers, especially in countries such as Switzerland and Norway, where it is already building a presence with its premium Voyah brand. The Nammi 01 (Nammi Box) model will be a key tool in the company's efforts to reach its ambitious goal of selling one million electric vehicles by 2025.
