Elderberry gin & tonic is the ideal drink for summer!
There's no doubt that making homemade elderberry syrup is a great way to make use of the beautifully scented flowers, but for those who want to try something different, elderberry gin also a wonderful and unusual alternative.
Elderflowers are best picked on a sunny day, and below you can read how to use them in a few steps in a version of the extremely popular drink - gin & tonic.
Ingridients
- 6 to 8 freshly picked elderflowers
- grated rind of one lemon
- spoon of powdered sugar
- 500 milliliters of gin
Preparation
Clean the elderflowers and then place them in a large pot or glass. Add the lemon peel, powdered sugar and pour over the gin. Cover the container and let it stand for 24 hours. Strain the mixture through coffee filter paper, gauze or similar, and pour into a clean bottle. Elderberry gin is served with tonic and a lot of ice and you can already enjoy a refreshing gin with a summer taste.
