Before breakfast, let's go through the closet and put things in their place. Let's pack up and store the ballast in the room and in our heads in the basement or find a more suitable place for it. Then we head from one underground towards the other, into the mysterious depths of the Postojna Cave.
We all know the way to get there, but it's also true that we can't ignore the huge yellow sign next to the coastal highway, which warns from afar that we're getting closer Postojna caves. At the same time, it tells us that a sense of aesthetics is not self-evident. Some develop it, others, unfortunately, do not. But the sign is behind us and it definitely achieved its purpose, so we find ourselves in front of the entrance to the Postojna Cave without any problems. The underground train ride takes us from one cave to another, from mighty stalactite formations that are hundreds of thousands of years old, to mysterious passageways and water areas, home to as many as 84 species of underground animals (36 terrestrial and 48 aquatic species). The mystery, darkness and mysticism that is saturated in the air says that we have come to the territory of the god Hades (according to Greek mythology), who is the ruler of death and birth, transformation and the unconscious, the deepest fears and passions. And just like the space, the time is also ideal to ask ourselves which things in our life have come to an end and which are the ones that should be transformed and live again in their splendor in the coming year.
Glitz and gloom
Let's be careful not to get carried away, let our decisions come from the heart and our being. Let them not cling to external, material forms, which can very quickly bring us from the heights of brilliance back to solid ground and even deeper into the dark spheres. Anyway, our journey is our responsibility, so let's move on and climb to Predjama Castle, which is nearby. As every year, during this year's festive season, a nativity scene was set up in it, which is on display until February 2, 2008 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. as part of the regular tour of the castle. The live nativity scene can also be seen in Postojna Cave, where this year they have added an additional surprise with an enriched program in January, as the holy three kings will join the nativity scene. Also, during the holidays, the organizers announce a Christmas fair, a chocolate fair and a merry Christmas with various musical performances on the plateau in front of the entrance to the Postojna Cave. We continue along the old road in the direction of Razdrte, where, even before we reach the settlement, we see a sign on the left for Hudičevec tourist farm. Don't let the name alone frighten us, as their friendly caretakers will tell us the story of the origin of the name during a delicious feast. But the real devil probably won't appear before us unless we drink too much of their fine wine, so let's choose the middle way and see to it that we carry out our adventure without endangering ourselves or others. Although the farm, where you can also spend the night, offers a range of other activities, including getting to know the old farm chores up close, let's continue our exploration of the always hospitable Karst.
Beautiful afternoon
"It's beautiful in the Karst, it's never too early and never too late, everything is always at the right time, in the Karst," wrote the poet Miroslav Košuta, who knows how to convey the essence in simple words. But we make sure that we also experience the essence, so let's continue along the regional road in the direction towards Longed for and let's indulge in the ride and be ready for little surprises. On the way, we will be invited to stop by many wine cellars and farms, where we can ensure that we enter the new year with a delicious supply of various local products. But when we see a bunch of ivy or a froska on the way, we will know that it is inviting us to the eight, where we will spoil our taste buds again. You can drive further to Tomaj, to the Karst homestead Škerlj, which is famous far and wide for its excellence. Their range and products are based on a love for everything that develops and grows, so it's hard to leave without getting to know in detail the diversity and variety of their offer. But let's not forget to experience another natural karst specialty, the karst burje. Let's walk through this ever-interesting landscape and let the wind blow our body and mind. We won't be cold either, because we didn't throw away our favorite sweater, which we brought back to the day after seven years, even though everyone saw the sleeves on it. And yes, after seven years everything really falls back into place.
