What does the movement of our planet sound like? Saša Spačal and Ida Hiršenfelder decided to research and show the sound produced by our planet at the Skorja exhibition in Portal Kibla in Maribor.
"In the crust of this planet, everything that is solid is crushed into a permeable surface," because the earth's surface is shaped by surprising phenomena.
In addition to volcanic explosions and tectonic plate movements, microseismic movements are also produced by other natural phenomena such as wind, water or human interventions. The earth constantly shakes and trembles, and the more obvious movements become apparent only in the span of a geological age, which is infinitely longer than man's stay on earth. exhibition, Crust: sonoseismic landscape, captures a moment that reveals the dynamic nature of all that seems solid and depicts the ever-changing image of the planet. The algorithm that triggers tectonic movements in the art installation is based on sound waves from field recordings on Mount Etna, which the two authors captured with a geophone, a microphone for detecting microseismic movements. The sound of movements in the volcanic crust is definitely worth listening to, because it reminds us how insignificant we are compared to the natural processes that take place on our planet every day, but we simply do not listen to them for one reason or another. Saša and Ida listened. Let's listen too!
