Designer and illustrator Meta Wraber decided after years of creating that it was time for her first solo exhibition. The colorful illustrations of her wonderful poetic world will be on display at the Šiška Cinema in Ljubljana.
Meta Wraber she is a designer and illustrator. She is pleasant, calm and a little nervous before her first solo exhibition, but the days that separate us until the opening are getting fewer and fewer. Despite this, it seems that the pieces of the puzzle that Meta creates and creates will gradually come together and viewing her works will be as much her own as she is.
With watercolors and colorful crayons, he invites us into his world, which will bring a tropical atmosphere to the illustrations in this spring-scented February. Her current studio in Poligon, where she is preparing for an exhibition, gives the impression of being on the other, warmer side of the world. When asked if she will exhibit only monkeys, she replies: "I will have collages, watercolours, a little bigger and I hope to create a tropical ambience.”
Meta has been drawing for as long as she can remember, since she was a child, when she used to fill blank sheets of paper with more girlish illustrations. She realized that this was really meant for her and that she would be involved in drawing all her life, when she was accepted to the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts and Design, where she graduated as a designer, although many people today recognize her more as an illustrator. Hardly anyone knows her culinary watercolors from the book Namazi Klemna Koširje, for example, ethereal female figures or poetic landscapes that can be admired in the poetry collection Labrador Kajetan Ković.
“I usually always start illustrating with watercolors, but for this exhibition I wanted to change the technique, so that I could get some new artistic expression and I started using watercolors in the manner of acrylic, tempera, I brush with them, pour them and then cut them afterwards. I also use pastels at the moment, acrylics, my technique in which I see myself the most and express myself best is watercolor,” says Meta about his favorite materials. In addition to sensual, gentle, but at the same time strong illustrations, her collection also includes monkeys of various colors and "personalities". Thoughtful, mysterious and eloquent animal faces resemble human ones and in this way create discomfort and giggles at the same time. A charming tropical paradise awaits us, which will be on display at the Šiška Cinema from February 23 to March 10, 2015.
