2,000 years ago, the power of the Roman Empire was growing rapidly, the conquest of the then-known world was intensifying, and the Romans also advanced to the area of today's Ljubljana and built the first city - Emona. Emona, along with many other Roman cities, was part of the giant wheel that powered the empire. On the occasion of the venerable anniversary, you can see the main exhibition entitled Emona: a city in the empire, which is on display until May 31, 2015, in the City Museum of Ljubljana.
With its universal form, architecture, way of life, legal order and values, it educated the inhabitants into loyal Roman citizens. With its rituals, rules and daily practices, it strengthened the common political, ideological and cultural identity.
Get to know Emona, its structure and its inhabitants at the exhibition Emona: a city in the empire, which is on view at the Ljubljana City Museum until May 31, 2015. You can find more information about the exhibition on the website www.mgml.si.
