Who is competing for the Palme d'Or?

In the best feature category, in addition to the Jarmusch film mentioned above, it is fighting for the prestigious palm this year 20 movies, including feature films by world-renowned directors such as Dolor y gloria by Pedro Almodóvar, Once upon a time in Quentin Tarantino's Hollywood and A Hidden Life by Terrence Malick.

There will be no Netflix films at the festival, as the artistic director of the festival, Thierry Frémaux, was unable to reach a compromise on suitability with them. The honorary Palme d'Or will go to a French film and theater actor at the 72nd festival Alain Delon.

Slovenian films are also at the festival

At this year's edition of the festival in Cannes, the Slovenian Film Center will present four Slovenian feature films at the Film Market (Market Screenings 2019): Don't forget to breathe director Martin Turk, Half-sister of director Damjan Kozolet, All Against All directed by Andrej Košak and I am Frenk directed by Metodo Pevec. A Slovenian author and director will also be present at this year's opening of the Cannes Directors' Fortnight 2019 program of the prestigious festival Urška Djukić with the short film The Right One. This year's producer "on the move" (Producer On The Move 2019) is Rok Biček at the head of the production company Cvinger Film.
