Ford is offering Ranger and Bronco Raptor owners the opportunity to increase the power of their vehicles with a simple software upgrade that provides a significant increase in power and torque for a relatively affordable €825.
If you own a Ford Ranger Raptor or Bronco Raptor and want more power without venturing into the aftermarket, Ford has just what you need. There is now a software calibration specifically designed for the 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine that unleashes significantly more horsepower and torque. This upgrade, offered by Ford Performance Parts, provides a significant performance boost without excessive cost.
For the 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor, the software upgrade unlocks an additional 45 horsepower (33 kW) and 105 Nm (77 lb-ft) of torque. This increases the output of the twin-turbo V6 engine to 430 hp (321 kW) and 682 Nm (503 lb-ft). In addition, Ford promises a more responsive throttle and improved gear selection in the 10-speed automatic transmission, providing a "more powerful driving experience."
The 2023-2024 Ford Bronco Raptor also benefits from these software changes, which means an additional 30 hp (22 kW) and 115 Nm (85 lb-ft), bringing the final output to 418 hp (312 kW) and 682 Nm (503 lb-ft) . With the upgrade from Ford Performance Parts, both models now have about the same power output, meaning the Bronco and Ranger Raptor can easily keep up with each other on the road.
Ford charges €825 for this upgrade, which is quite reasonable considering the significant increase in power. If you attend the Raptor Rally event on September 21 near the Ford Performance Racing School in Fairfield, Utah, you can get a 20% discount on the software upgrade and other accessories in the catalog Ford Performance Parts. The registration fee for the event is €500.
The software upgrade is available for purchase on the Ford Performance Parts website and is performed at authorized Ford service centers. This official "chip tuning" does not invalidate the vehicle's warranty, so the three-year warranty or 58,000 km remains intact.
The Ranger and Bronco Raptor aren't the only Ford models that offer this type of upgrade. Similar “plug & play” upgrades are also available for the 2021-2024 Ford Explorer ST (2020-2024), Mustang EcoBoost (2018-2023) and standard Bronco (2.3L and 2.7L Ecoboost).
Of course, the upgrade is only available in the US market. Ford Performance Parts, which offers this upgrade, is mostly focused on the US, so the availability of such products and services is often limited to that market. While it is possible that this upgrade will be available in other markets at a later date, it is currently best to check with your local Ford dealership or their website for the latest information on availability and import options in other regions.
All of us who are familiar with the Chip Tuning market can affirm that for a comparable amount you can get some more horses, even now with specialists for car programs.
